In Ontario, the Gr Corolla is 38% more money on a cash purchase. The engine is a bored out version of the reliable FA20 and has less boost and a lower redline. Safe to assume the FA24dit is going to be a reliable engine in stock config. Hot hatches are popular but there's something useful about having a trunk. Maybe I'd be in the market for a 3banger with worse back seats and that gets 1/2 second better 1/4 mile, if I had 38% more money Who knows...

I never understood why reviewers compare the EN with cars that are $10k more (GR Corolla, Type R) without markups. EN competitor is the Honda civic Si, which is essentially the same price after you add options equivalent to the EN. You know the Si is no competition performance wise.

The pricing on these are insane. You can't get any in the NYC metro area for under $40k, which is insane for this type of car given that you can get into several EV's for around that much. If you can charge at home, you can probably make good use of a full EV too.

Isn't a hit because the buying public doesn't want sedans. It isn't flashy. The OEM tires are rubbish. But there isn't another true AWD sedan that can run with it or provide a more satisfying driver experience, once you throw the OEM tires away and put serious rubber on it. All day comfortable, quiet, nimble, and gets reasonable fuel mileage. Mine is at 42k and doesn't use a single of oil in between changes. The CVT makes it launch softly, and doesn't have a short 1st "gear", but 20 and up it'll run with many far more expensive cars.

I just picked up a used 2019 A4 45 quattro last week for a nice daily driver. Got a really good price on it. The car has plenty of power for daily driving. I have my 2022 Shelby GT500 for when I'm craving more power lol.

$30-40k are normal car prices going back 30 plus years inflation adjusted. Look at the same cars above from 10, 20, 30 years ago and adjust for inflation.

I sold my Silverado 1500 w 100000 miles and bought a Ridgeline. I am very happy after a few weeks with mileage and handling.

I see many reviews that says this interior is cheap and old, but I rented a base model and was quite impressed with it. It's a nice interior and I disagree with pretty much every reviewer.

It feels like GR86 is more like for racing, if I want just a car some chill fun rides, will the Miata be better?

I didn't hear you mention paint. One thing that clinched buying the CX-5 over the CX-30 is that (for the North American market) the CX-5 is made in Japan while the CX-30 is made in Mexico. I wanted the beautiful Mazda red (which Ford, Tesla, and other makers have imitated) but I read that there have been problems with that colour in the Mexico factory.

This is exactly the comprehensive easy-to-understand no-nonsense overview of these three models I was looking for. Well done!! I went with the CX-5 for the reasons you describe. I felt that in the under-$30,000 price point I was looking for I got a proven exceptionally well-designed well-made car. The CX-30 struck me as looking more sporty but sacrificing a lot of practicality. I love the higher seating position, greater visibility, roomier cabin, and bigger cargo area of the CX-5. (I'm also 6'3".) I've been driving Mazdas since the 1980s and I love the tighter suspension, steering, and handling that comes with all Mazdas. (My son's Toyota feels spongey, floaty, and vague in comparison.) My CX-5 is a great "road car" with smooth ride and comfortable seats, I've gone on several long trips including twisty mountain driving where it handled very well.

Thank God hyundai updated the elantra N. The pre facelift looks like shit!

I’m concerns out the warping on the heads, heat and cooling have showing to cause some damage.

The GR has an embarassing interior for a $60k car after markups. And the car's reliability has been very suspect when tracking it. I would take the refreshed Elantra N every day.

I'll take this car over any of todays vehicles.

I bought my 2023 just to buy one and have the joy of riding. My daily driver is another 2023 Mazda, the CX-5. That being said, I do take it to work on nice days, and the joy of driving is back some forty-five years after my first automobile.

I had a 2014 Honda Accord LX-MT. Got rid of it at 84K miles because the gaskets started leaking oil, and the mechanic said to just keep adding oil. My trusted mechanic told me this was a common issue for that year Honda. Was really a disappointment because I'd owned Hondas for 25 years and never had oil burning issues with any of them.

My buddy has had his GR for six months . His warning is test drive it as long as you can as when the novelty wears off the daily driving is not great .

I bought my SE back in february. I got incredibly lucky and found it at a $2500 discount, putting it at the same price point as the LEs. For me, it's a commuter vehicle, about 80% highway driving, 200+ miles per week, and I'm averaging 49 mpg. Most of my complaints stem from the fact that my last car was a 2012 manual transmission ford fiesta. With the SE, it feels like I'm not actually driving; I'm just negotiating with a computer. Maybe I'll eventually get used to it.

Elantra is nice but I’m worried about the reliability.

Car has a parasitic battery drain that Hyundai won't fix, stay away.

GR is the better looking car by a long shot. It’s a proper hot hatch and feels thought out. The N is a design mess and just has too many embellishments that make it look very odd at certain angles. Hyundai really doesn’t make great looking cars …

@realistick i am buying my very first car. based on your reviews and my research thinking of going for corolla LE, but that doesn't include blind spot monitor? I am not a pro driver, should I prefer SE or camry? or should i buy convenience package on LE? I will be using this car for groceries and daycare pickup and plan to keep it for a longer period of time.

I own a GR, but you can’t go wrong with either one. Whenever I see an Elantra N on the street I get as excited as when I see another GR or Type R. Just glad these cars exist at all.

I think a lot of people get hung up on the brand, but in all honesty Hyundai has come a long way. You won’t be disappointed. I could afford an m2/type s/type r. But the sacrifice of not having the freedom to mod and not care about warranty coupled with the fact it’s a weekend vehicle made my choice pretty clear. I love the type r and gr, but the mark ups in NY just rubbed me the wrong way. It’s like they were insulting my intelligence! Trying to add 10k+. Absolutely ridiculous! So I said F all that I’m getting an EN 2024, modding it to 400+ hp and still spend less. Just waiting on my tune rn. With all that said… all the cars I mentioned are amazing, I’m not a hater. But if you’re looking for value and performance, EN hands down.

Honestly the SE Corolla hybrid is amazing. It’s got all the characteristics of an edgy sport car without sacrificing the gas saving you will love. I had a 2015 Prius it felt so meh loved it but need some style.

Just an inside tip, go back to 04-06 for the B15 Spec V, much better looking car overall. I feel like its the last Sentra with tuner roots. Nissan really destroyed the soul of the car when they designed a high roof mid sized 07 sedan. Should have stayed compact IMO.
